This will be my first woodworking project, but I actually was wondering too, why he didn’t use the same board to measure.

Comment on The World’s Simplest Box Joint Jig by Steve Lackey http://woodworkingformeremortals.com/worlds-simplest-box-joint-jig/#comment-14817 Fri, 18 May 2018 04:09:45 +0000 http://woodworking.formeremortals.net/?p=8828#comment-14817 Thanks for the great photo guide for making the dado jig for finger joints. Everything worked fine but I found the step where you use a rod spacer between the fixed rod and the dado blade to be cumbersome and not very accurate. After a few trials with mixed results, I screwed a vertical guide in the right location on the face of the jig and then cut the outside finger knotch on 20 pieces for my 10 cabinet drawers. Doing this made them accurate and identical. After completing all the first knotches, I removed the vertical guide and continued cutting the rest of the knotches using the fixed rod. Perfect!

Thanks again for your great instruction.

I live in Malawi where access to a lot of materials is limited. I would like to know what you used to give the two tone effect I like so much (i.e. what was applied to the wood to change the colour and provide this contrast).
Thanks
Robbie
