Hey, Vaughn here. I wanted to share my latest project. It’s a radio I built for my home office. The body of the radio is pine sandwiched together and cut out with a band saw. The face plate is a scrap piece of unknown dark wood I got from a box of cast offs from a cabinet maker. The ‘inards’ came from Amazon. The shape was inspired by design elements from mid-century modern home decor.
The challenge of this project was cutting out the body shape on a very small, very cheap band saw. Thank goodness for belt sanders! The radio and speakers were the most expensive part. I think if I was to do this again, I would upcycle an old discarded radio instead of buying new parts. Even so, the piece cost me about $40 to make.
