Hardwood Salad Servers | Easy First Bandsaw Project

For the Home, Gift ideas, Plans, Projects

This week we’re going to make salad servers – a great starter project on the band saw. These also make great gifts, so if you’re looking for last-minute Christmas presents, let’s fire up that saw and get to work.

Start with two scrap pieces of hardwood. Glue the side templates onto the boards with spray-on adhesive.

Use your band saw to follow the template.

Quickly run over the the biggest ridges with your sander. Don’t take much time, as there’s still a lot of cutting to do.
Glue on the second template, and then drill the base of each “finger” to make it easier to cut out.

Again, follow the template with your band saw.

This project is all about the sanding. Carefully sand down every surface.

Work down to 320 grit for a really smooth finish.

Finally, rub in a food-grade finish such as mineral oil to protect your servers. And you’re finished!
